Wheels of life when well trodden

Are like nature's autumn

Swiftly bending noble axis

For Heaven's realms of each

Do not stand then on steps to reach

But be held in the company

Of those who seek

Whose will is therefore humming

Through to mind's content?

From est to per

The lattice swells

As rose given in solemn trust

Will bear no mark of thickets moving

But will in lasting smile of light

Forge the ascent of cedars.

The Muses Spin the Wheels. Artwork by LisaALachapelle. 1999-2000

This poem is published in my book of poems, 2nd out of 107 contained in it.

My artwork has 9 hands representing the Muses of Greek Mythology, Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Polymnia, Terpsichore, Talia and Urania. They often accompanied Apollo, god of the arts. They inhabited Mount Helicon, but were often on Olympus to entertain the gods. The wheels represent many lifetimes woven together Roma, ancient Christian, medieval period, and indigenous because many of the mythological stories match in meaning. The whole symbolic structure, to me, means the Wheels of Life. (Sorry about the quality of the picture. I will update it when I find a better copy.)

Wheels of life is a spiritual precept meaning you don't go on to the next part of learning until you understand the part before. To explain it further, because that's what I do as a postmodern guru: the wheels are a concept of learning how to get to Heaven finally after each re-birth here where we are meant to learn the thread of life stories carried out through our types of existence culturally and intellectually. More in my next books.
