What you can’t replace
You can build again what time has broken,
earn back gold that slipped away,
find new faces in old places,
chase new dreams another day.
You can replace the house, the car,
the faded clothes, the years that flew,
but there’s no bargain, no exchange,
you can’t replace the ones who knew.
The ones who held you when you stumbled,
spoke your name with steady grace,
who saw the child behind your shadow,
and loved the lines upon your face.
Life may steal, the world may take,
but through it all, one thing stays true,
you can replace a lot in life,
except the ones who won’t replace you.
