What Was Is No More

Reflections

What Was Is No More

There is a house I see in my mind afar off,

Where voices call out, some loud, some soft.

Where dirt roads leading this way and that,

Where there were a few dogs and seldom a cat.

There is a place I see in my mind’s eye,

Where children played under blue skies.

Where crawdads moved in shallow ponds,

Where creeks shimmered like flowing diamonds.

There is a bond of which I still feel,

Where laughter and love and family seal.

Where smiles were a plenty on rainy days,

Where games and books came out to play.

There is a memory I hold within,

Where moths and mold cannot offend.

Where priceless words forever recall,

A communion of lifetimes within us all.

There is a lifetime I turn to view,

Where family hugs were way too few.

Where our passion for life’s unending love,

Now has become embodied in heavenly doves.

Gone is that house where we lived our lives,

Gone is that place that I saw with my own eyes.

Gone are the days of childhood’s foolery,

Gone are the days of childhood’s illusory.
