What Time Stole

And What It Gave

If we had known what the future held, would we have stayed in the past a little longer?

Now weathered from trauma, from pain, would we have been a little stronger?

Things that go bump in the night start to see the light of day

As the shadows around deepen, allowing the monsters more room to play

They claw, they scratch, they crawl, they scream

As they rip us apart at every seam

We fight, we run, stay looking over our shoulders

As the weight of time makes us older

As the wait of time makes us colder

The dreams of yesterday became stars in the sky

We were other people then and never got to say goodbye

Memories replay on a loop, like movies in our heads

Never forgetting the feelings, as if burned into our flesh

The waves pulsed, pushing us to and fro

As we sailed through waters we had never known

We ache, we yearn, we crave just a little relief

To bring us to the other side of this debilitating grief

Some wounds can never be healed by a suture

If we had stayed in the past, would we have had a future?
