What the world wants is amusement,

But that is not what the people see.

The world sees entertainment,

But the people know they are not free.

The spotlight shines down from above

The stars shine bright in the dark

The cannon rolls in on the dove

Yet all it needs is a spark.

The monkeys learn to fly,

The fish are taught to climb trees,

But no one ever asks why

Dancing is forced upon chimpanzees.

The camera sees all,

Reporters crowd around

Celebrities overdosing in the hall,

Not enough therapy rebound.

Sometimes forced to take clothes off,

Innocence lost to gain attraction

Attention gained through showing off

By lights, camera, action.

Smiles hide the pain,

Anxiety aids depression,

The known attempt freedom in vain

There is never any intervention.

Fame is a prison

But few people know

They hardly own a name

Despite being the stars of the show.

What the world wants is amusement,

But that is not what the people see.

The world sees entertainment,

But the people know they are not free.
