What Is A Shadow

I always wanted to know why my dad said never play with your shadow ?

What Is A Shadow

My shadow mystically follows me,

A silent twin, where none can see.

But what is a shadow, I often ask,

A fleeting figure, a haunting mask?

Sometimes it frightens, dark and still,

A creeping echo against my will.

Stretching long as the sun dips low,

Or fading fast where the bright lights go.

Is it my spirit, my soul’s disguise,

A mirror cast by the sunlit skies?

Or is it a ghost, a past unknown,

Forever bound, yet always alone?

It dances with me in moonlit beams,

Appearing real but born of dreams.

Why does a shadow follow me?

Is it a ghost, or only the inner me?

The inspiration for this poem comes from my Dad. He used to tell me off for playing with my shadow on the wall. When I asked why ? he would simply say, No you do not play with your shadow ever ?

What a way of perceiving an or your own shadow. Great work. Maybe your dad thought if you play with your shadow your shadow would take over you.
