What if you left

A poem about the denial felt after being left by someone you loved.

What if you did?

left me in the cool depths of the night

left me in the time I needed you most

Would you have had remorse?

Would you have missed me?

Would you have secretly rejoiced?

Would you have happily moved on?

Found a beautiful wife?

One you would not have to love in secret?

Me,

I would have cried

I would've let the ice pierce through my lungs

I would've been sick with hatred for myself

For ever letting myself love you

To take my glass heart

and shatter it

but yet

I would've ran

to any situation

Where I could hear you laugh again

I would've tried

So fucking hard

to hide the conflict within myself

but in reality

I would've died inside

I would've in silence

Watched you disappear

Into the dark depths of the night

Vowing never again

To fall in love
