What if I Told You

If I told you your eyes light the crescent moon,

if I said it’s your smile that warms the new day,

if I swore that your voice makes the nightingale swoon,

and insisted your arms keep the night chills away,

if I said, with your hands, you could make the world turn,

if I told you your passion causes oceans to rise,

that one kiss from you, and volcanoes would churn,

and that when you are sad, I watch the sky cry;

if I pour out my heart, can hope for us arise

when I tell you that planets spin in your frame?

If I fall into your arms, will you comfort my cries

when I say that the heavens call out your name?

*

Would you still say our love can’t survive one more day?

Can you look in my eyes, and still walk away?

    What a moving declaration of love and heartbreak. The rhythm flows effortlessly, and each line builds toward that aching final plea. Truly deserving of its Top Story feature.
