The gods may hold the power, the kings may hold the wealth,

The fates may hold my future, my good fortune, and my health.

To please the will of existence my control I resign,

But this bit of universe is mine.

.

.

I am my mother, I’ve her ambition and grit inside.

I am my father, I’ve his good nature and stubborn pride.

I come from all before me and within me they reside,

But despite those who formed me, my traits are my own to guide.

.

.

Conditions do conspire, and not always for my good.

Circumstances tire, and no matter where they stood.

I cannot choose the life that I’m expected to endure,

But I decide if I meet fate with defeat or rigour.

.

.

The universe conducts itself, and with no help from me,

But given orchestra, I choose to hear the symphony.

Though I’ve no pow'r o’er every fiber of the galaxy.

This sect of life that I’ve been giv'n belongs to none but me.
