We planted peas in a large aluminum bucket, placing seeds over layers of dead branches and lush soil from our yard; we mounted and positioned the tin centrally to receive the most sun (isn’t that something we all need?).
We watered it when it didn’t rain, let it dry between drenchings, and when a frost came and went, then another, we provided sanctuary in our home to the budding pulse (another something we all need).
Our new life reminds me–amidst the doldrum, the drudgery, the death–that we are the world-builders, each of us, and that our capacity to make change extends beyond what our leaders have told us.

Oh, kp. I think I have already made my choice. I thought I was going to go with material, but now will be going with this one for the anthology. I can be swayed if you prefer one over the other. I like the positivity of this, but love the formatting and jaggedness of material. Right now, though, this is the one I will be choosing for the anthology. Thank you for taking part!
Hi kp!!! I very much enjoyed reading your poem. It is so insightful and so comforting. I especially appreciated the line about sanctuary. Shouldn't we all be providing comfort for those around us especially those that are struggling and suffering and looking for a better life. Your heart and your soul and your compassion comes through in your writing. I have subscribed to you and I look forward to reading more of your works.
That's amazing your work is very inspiring 😊 I really appreciate your observing power

This was so lovely!
Build those worlds one tiny snap pea at a time and watch the microcosms growing around it! Nice job!
