What happens to a dream deferred?

Langston Hughes inspired poem

By Tamia PhoenixPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

What happens to a dream deferred?

Is it a moment gone

In the blink of an eye?

Is it a day passed without any movement?

Do I sit and weep—

And cry over spilled milk?

A dream deferred is like a night sky—

Filled with shooting stars

It comes and goes

But you wish for it to come back

Like a feeling of sand

Slipping through your fingers

So close

But yet so far

So sweet

But sealed with bitterness

So I ask again...

What happens to a dream deferred?

A moment gone...

But never forgotten
