I was in an empty hotel room

The walls were empty and got shorter by the day

The windows were bare and white on the other side

A blackbird’s the only thing I saw out the window

The blackbird said there’s nothing out there

But there's no use for a window if there's nothing outside

I want to see for myself

I was scared of missing what's out there

The small TV on the wall said there’s a disease

The blackbird said my lungs would rot if I left

He shouted if I coughed

If I coughed I was scared I'd die

The blackbird said paranoia kept me safe

I questioned the blackbird and he screamed

All I could do is watch the TV

The disease was spreading fast

The blackbird said I had no future

The blackbird said paranoia kept me safe

"I’m safe, I’m safe, I’m safe, but I'm not safe"

"I'm not safe here," I told him

"You're not safe out there" he shouted

I stepped out the door and the blackbird screamed

I stopped listening to the blackbird and go outside

The blackbird’s screams stopped

And I walked out

I'm finally safe
