What Color Am I

by: Lenard G. King

What color am I

I am the rainbow

Born of thunder, raised in sunshine

Stripe over stripe

Separate and together

What colors do you see

I am red

Full of passion for my life

Bottomless of strength

Endless power to excite

See my flame, Feel my heat

I am orange

Young at heart

Awash in expectations

That sail me through

The ocean of my fears

Never looking back,

always ahead

I am yellow

As bright as happiness

That radiates throughout my days

Thinking, thinking ,always thinking

There lies inside of me

A garden of undying blooms

That brighten my way

I am green

I am spring, new born

Arriving at your door

A messenger of hope

Promising abundant life

To fortify your heart

And entertain your joy

I am blue

Not sad for who I am

But secure inside myself

Not unequal

Standing up proudly

Confessing faults and successes

One erasing the other

transparent to all

I am purple

Like costumes draped on kings

Demanding you notice me

My soul requires

Your attention

For who I am

And that which lies inside

What color am I

I am the rainbow

Separate and together

One by one, all for one

I am the rainbow

See me shine, see me fly.
