Are we doing this again?
You have tried to dampen me a million times over
By convincing me your hateful shadow was...
Is
Mine to exist within.
You killed all light source so I could not shine.
Threw me blindfolded into a basement with a broken fuse.
It makes sense that you think I’m still there
Clawing at the walls of your shadow in despair.
I’m not there.
I escaped a while ago.
Your shadow was my existence until I realised I could step out of it.
Then saw what happens when I exist.
I became the light you fought so hard to kill
And I refuse to die.
About the Creator
DJ the poet
Hello! I'm DJ, a neurodivergent poet. It's rare that I'm able to focus long enough to complete a poem, but when I do I really enjoy it. Hope some of the stuff I write resonates with you. Cheers!
