West

"It was essential (to pause was to throw herself into unspeakable peril) that she be on the freeway by ten o'clock." -Didion

Drive west, chase sunsets

Don't let the day end here

The red sky reflects your eyes

Filled with angry fear.

Drive west, chase sunsets,

The east in your rearview mirror.

The time for starting new with dawn

Has long since disappeared.

Drive west, chase sunsets

Regrets soak in last rays.

The rising, looming, knowing moon,

Will bring the blues your way.

Drive west, chase sunsets.

When the sun is gone

The only fire that will burn

Will scorch your soul, alone.
