Snow drifted
Carrying with it the warmth
And beauty
Of fresh change,
The reminders of
What we have overlooked
During the calm months,
A slow down most needed,
A quick glimpse
Of what we have forgotten
To appreciate
And count as blessings-
A simple pause
While passing window
To observe a world
Blanketed in white,
Shapes standing tall,
Blending in
With a matching background,
Horizon stretching far,
Broken up by snippets
Of tree bark
And winding stone walls,
The simple indents
Disturbing constant coating,
The only sign
Of last night’s visitors,
The only beings
That witnessed the drops
Firsthand,
Playing in the swirling fall
While the rest of the world slept,
Only to awake to a delay of their day,
A welcome event after
Racing hands around a clock
For someone else,
A welcome deep breath
An enjoyed cup of coffee
In the presence of love
Before starting another day,
Another week,
In the hopes of another glimpse
Of the falling snow.
