Weeds, Wild Flowers and Roses that Grew from Concrete

July 29, 2016

By jl woodPublished 3 months ago 1 min read

Black tar streets

and walls of concrete.

Tower blocks tower —

from a crack in the sidewalk

grows a bouquet of flowers.

Soft-looking, delicate,

their entire being

stands against urban etiquette —

Contrasting the gray,

adding life to the lifeless;

Bright night and day,

yellow petals, they’re sun-kissed —

And still we’re told

that they weren’t meant to exist;

Though nice to behold,

that they’re simply useless,

a nuisance —

But adding light serves a purpose,

it’s perfectly lucid.
