We weren't meant for this.

Or were we?

We weren’t meant for this.

God was meant to lead us through,

like a narrator telling a story,

but his mic turned off and we’re stuck

finding our own way through.

We weren’t meant for this.

our faces only meant to be seen

by reflections of water,

not meant to stare at it for hours

pulling it apart

in hate.

We weren’t meant for this.

the way society was built

was against us

this amount of stress was unthinkable,

we weren’t meant to be

this anxious

that’s why we all break.

We weren’t meant for this.

guns being used to kill children,

bullets firing through elementary schools

as children still learning to count to 10

learn true hatred

as they weep

for one last kiss

from their mother.

or maybe, we were.

this society is messed up,

but maybe that’s how

it's supposed to be.

We weren’t meant for this.

the world was.

Meant to destroy us,

pull us apart

one

by

one.
