We were no longer yours
We were no longer yours, you see, And you, no longer mine to be.

The winds had stilled, this much was true,
Yet the evening sighed, as if it knew.
The yellow leaves, in the storm’s embrace,
Had heard a tale of a mournful place.
And as they listened, they softly wept,
Their sorrow deep, no peace they kept.
What grief had struck, no one could say,
For trees were torn from roots that day.
We searched for you in every lane,
Through valleys deep, through hills of pain,
On every peak, in each ravine,
Yet not a trace of you was seen.
We told our hearts to wait and see,
"The wind will pause, and then we’ll be
Upon the path where you reside,
And find the way to stand beside."
But this sweet hope, it led astray,
And wrecked our hearts along the way.
The winds had stilled, this much was true,
Yet endless years had passed us too.
The forests of our hair turned white,
As silver lined each strand in sight.
The sky lost stars, the roses faded,
The joys of love, long decimated.
The friends who once had filled our heart,
From life’s embrace, they did depart.
But oh, above all griefs that stayed,
One truth remained, that still dismayed:
We were no longer yours, you see,
And you, no longer mine to be.
The winds had stilled, this much was true,
Yet endless years had passed us too!Start writing...
