We’re obsessed with numbers

Every calorie and minute that inch by

Any time ever left

Every dime always spent

On any fool nearby

//

We’re obsessed with digits

The bright red always a wake up call

Always reminding us that we’re late

A pre-eviction notice for life

Why is nothing ever paid in time

//

We’re obsessed with these codes

Passwords that we always forget

Trying to scrap and save

Whatever is left of all this change

When did everything becomes such a transaction

//

We’re obsessed with these damn symbols

Telling us how well we play our lives

Double press X long hold O

Trying to get the high score of life

But you forgot to turn on the system

//

We’re so obsessed with the game

We forgot to look around, see

The power is out, the bank is empty

The fridge is bare, and the scale needs a new battery

We forgot to look around and see

//

We closed our eyes to humanity

Become a bunch of zeros in a discarded cheque book

Void of any emotion

Filled with debt

To the joy we used to feel back in sandboxes and swimming pools

Back to when there were so many water drops, that we couldn’t even count

    Yes, yes, yes, Oneg! We lost our sense of community, we are completely disconnected from one another. And yet, we have never had more ways to communicate.

    This was a journey. There were juts too many quotable lines, but ONE of my favorites has to be this one: ''We’re obsessed with these damn symbols Telling us how well we play our lives...'' Gorgeous writing ⭐

  • Whoaaa, this hit me hard. The bitter truth. We just chase around too many insignificant things and forget to stop to enjoy life. Loved your poem so much!

    I really enjoyed this poem and super loved the ending especially - how you contrasted our obsession with numbers nowadays against the simple joy of watching raindrops in the past (perhaps childhood or perhaps even a simpler time) and not worrying about the quantity, just basking in the joy of it all. Well done, my friend!

    Love it, very poignant as I'm sure we all fail to see at times, or get caught up and miss the little things..
