We occupy the beach of love

between sand-filled Picasso mandolins

and half-buried sphinx paws

and picnic papers

dead crab legs

and starfish marks

We occupy the beach of love

among stranded mermaids

with their screaming babies and bald husbands

and homemade wooden animals

with scoops of ice cream making feet

who cannot love or walk

except to eat

We occupy the edge of love

safe as only occupants know how to be

among remaining puddles

of salty tide of sex

and the soft rivulets of semen

and buried saggy balloons

in the soft flesh of the sand

And we still laugh

and we still run

and we still lay

on the love buttons

but it's deeper

and later

we think

and everything is spent

and all our love floats fail

And we drink and drown
