We Need Feminism Because...

Once I was told, in this modern-day millennium, that we do not need feminism

That feminism is just a conspiracy from attention seeking biddies who are middle aged, unmarried and angry

I was told that because we are paid “near enough” to equally in this first world modern society that feminism is not needed and therefore not wanted

This obviously clueless and outspoken man, confused me For if he had not one thing, he sure as hell had the audacity To make such a comment on something outside of his hormonal capacity

Update: It is your opinion that is not needed nor wanted

So I composed myself, and spoke frankly Sir we need feminism because While the wage gap in this country may not be enough for you to care Women from Mexico earn less than 50% of your white dollar

And did you forget that rape is alive and well? Its existence alone effects one in five of us So why don’t you go and count up your mothers, your sisters, your aunts and your wives Sir we need feminism because I can guarantee you will count more than five

Whilst you may look around and think here sexism isn’t that cruel Sir young girls in Afghanistan are not permitted to go to school We need feminism because they are married off by their parents before the age of 18 And will spend the rest of their lives making sure their husbands are happy and the kitchen is clean

Sir we need feminism because Before I leave my house every morning my mother inspects my attire “Cover up” she says, “or men will not respect you” But mother men have hurt me whether I chose to dress in a way that reflects their desires or not

And let us not forget the victories that we have accomplished Because of feminism, laws that prevented me from voting have been abolished Our sisters in Arabia are now allowed to drive And laws that prevent women from traveling without male authority are all but alive

We need feminism, yet you are putting mine at risk Because without feminism my freedom would not exist Feminism is needed but your opinions, sir, are not

So next time you decide to spout your ignorance and disbelief I suggest you take several seats Because I am a feminist And you will no longer silence my needs
