We Just Live In It

A Dystopian Soliloquy

There was me,

one of thirty people.

The only humans

to exist, in my universe,

were paired off;

One man to one woman.

The cybernetic overlords say,

We exist for the preservation

of the human race.

These, our digital masters,

provide for us,

protect us,

and feed us.

All they ask in return,

is that we breed

as frequently as possible.

Most of us, of course,

are happy to oblige them.

I would be too,

but I’m paired

with a man, named Des,

and the only person

he’s interested in breeding with

is Jeffery, from next door.

But I'm not jealous;

Every vibrator here

is equipped with

an, artfully talented,

artificial intelligence.
