We Are Quilted
March 26, 2013
Questions for me
Questions for living
This form for life
I never filled out
Last and first
Date of birth
Social number
And where I’m born
Figures to determine
My person
Name of mother’s maiden
Plot ancestors laid in
Numbers and letters
That show who I am
But don’t make up
My identity
A favorite show
What I know
Unique factors in
Concluding the self
Just to need that
Companionship
No two the same
No stripes remain
For not too far down
We’re made of identical
Stuff, Identical enough
To know we’re different still
Equal in the building
As stitches in quilting
A missing stitch
Amidst the fabric
Leaves a hole for
The cold to come in
Strong love in uniform
To bare the hate storm
Sewn together
Individual strands
Coming together
A beautiful tapestry
Equality of identity
Equity for eternity
