We are more similar than different

Despite our many differences,

We are in so many ways the same.

Place your hand on my chest,

Feel the vibrations of my heart,

Beating like drums deep against my skin.

I’ll place my hands on you

So I can feel yours too,

Your rhythm slightly different from mine;

Each heart playing its unique song

but both hearts doing the same job

in keeping us alive.

Our features come in all shapes and sizes.

It is what makes each of us unique.

Touching, seeing, smelling and hearing;

Senses

with the ability to evoke specific feelings

that are all essential

in making us emotional beings.

My tears,

Are no different from yours

Although they can be triggered

By a different cause.

Your smile,

Might be different in shape

But what we share is a similar feeling of joy.

When I look at you,

I see myself too;

Different but one and the same.

A species of beings

With the unique capability

Of reasoning,

Simply coexisting.
