What is the difference between people and things?
Mere objects; just there being, for a while
Never knowing what it is like for beings
To be conscious of their consciousness—it’s style
Things simply are not capable of this
No mere machine, busy scraping the web
Could ever, the mad scraping, fondly miss;
Or feel the bleak tedium flow and ebb
Talk with a person, in any language
You will discover what language is for
No mere means of data storage
It is data experienced; what’s more
You are experiencing reading this
Things only see targets they cannot miss
