"Deutschland, Deutschland," is his battle cry
A Bayonet his weapon and a willingness to die
Doing all he has to do to remember all before
Sacrificing friends and foe in a game to win a war.
He sees his breath it is that cold then wipes away a tear
Dying on this horrible land is his only fear
Are they English or are they French he wonders with little care
His comrades and their certain death is too much to bare.
His rifle raised, his target set, his enemy now in view
Yet he knows with a second glance he is a target too
"Fire now" "Shout and Kill" his commander bellows the order
"Just twenty more of you to die and we will win the border."
He falls this German, this brave young man blood pouring from his head
He waited too long to thank mankind and now he lays there dead
But the war goes on, the battle burns and not all soldiers will return
For as they say in many a place,
“Some men just want to see the world burn.”
