Walking Numb

Survival Instinct

My life has fallen apart countless times.

This numbness is fuzzy and familiar.

I lost more people in my life today.

But I am still here.

Truth is still truth.

It’s easier if everyone believes it.

But I guess we won’t do easy.

*

This.

It’s me. Us

We are now alone.

I am frightened to see what happens.

See who is really inside the people I love.

Up is down and down is up.

Truth may not be heard before I die.

So now we find a new way to move on.

To live our lives.

*

I'm sorry.

But, yes...

There are horrific life experiences,

-abandonment, abuse, and broken promises-

that enable some of us by rote

To stuff this horror down deep

While we continue to move our body around.

It's how we've always survived.

You got this.

We got this.

Later: we'll find a better way.

Do what works.

For now.

This was such an open and honest poem. Acceptance dose take time in any situation and it is hard. I love how your poem capture this.

Very well written, without anger and vitriol. Those last two llines are probably some of the best advice I've ever heard. Well writ, Judey!

An important piece and full of too much painful truth. I'm trying to have hope, but it's not been easy. Hugs to you.

A most perfect response to the chaos and hopes and heartbreak - and yet hope again - of this time. You captured so simply and eloquently what so many of us are feeling.... Or not feeling....

Same feelings. Nothing works for me at the moment but I know I will have to pick myself up and somehow move on.
