walking kaleidoscopes of emotion (a poem)

for each way we are unique and complex, we are ordinary and simple

By Jenn BohnPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

My strengths

Are my weaknesses

I am both in a position of

Authority

And vulnerability

I belong both

Everywhere and

Nowhere

I am lost in a crowd yet

Found in a group

North is south

Left is right

My existence is proof that two

Distinctly different homogeneous beings

Can merge to make one

Something beautiful

Something unique

But let’s be real

I am no more special than the person sitting next to me

Or the next

Or the next

Or the next

At the end of the day

We are nothing (and everything) but

Flesh, bones, and a soul

We are all uniquely beautiful

And nothing special

We are complex and simple

Rays of light

Bursting at the seams with creativity and

Passion- if we dare to nurture the little whisper inside of us that’s

Begging to be released

To be seen

To be heard

To be cherished

Our emotions dance in delicate rays of

Yellows, pinks, tangerine

Purple, blue, rouge, green

Like us

No color

No emotion

Is needless

Or unnecessary

We are all here

To live our stories

To be released

To be seen

To be heard

To be cherished

So I feel

I feel it all

The good, the bad, the ugly

For happiness would have no concept

No value

No worth

Without depression

Excitement without disappointment

Love without fear

“It takes both the sun and shadow to make the ocean floor sparkle.”

- Chris-Anne

So I go there

When my ego asks me to override my soul for the sake of comfort in sacrifice of growth

I choose the latter

I take the good with the bad and the ugly

Because it’s all beautiful

The reds, the yellows, the pinks,

The greens, the oranges, the purples, the blues

Anger, fear, love, passion, happiness, excitement, anxiety

Contentment, humility, peace, grief, vulnerability

Life is too short too not live life in a kaleidoscope of color; of emotion
