Waiting for Mummy

The little dog looks up and wonders where is heaven?

Waiting for Mummy

He waits in the garden all alone

paws pressed soft upon the grass

eyes fixed high where clouds drift by

wondering where in heaven she has gone

The roses bow beneath the wind

he lifts his head, no sound to find

every bird that crosses the sky

he hopes his mummy will come back

The sun dips low and shadows creep

he rests beside the gate too sad to sleep

each passing breeze, each whispering tree

he wonders if mummy still thinks of me

He still has his dad but he just cries too

mummy please come back we both need you

his loyal heart, so worn, so true

beats only for the one he knew

The stars appear, cold and wide

he curls beside the garden side

and in the hush, his faithful sigh

he asks the clouds where is heaven dear sky’s

The moon drifts slow, pale and thin

he lifts his face, waits for her grin

each passing cloud, each silver light

he dreams she might return tonight

Morning breaks, the dew is cold

he lingers on the paths she used to hold

and still he waits with patient eyes

searching heaven for her disguise

Aww! What a poem of many emotions. Really like the image you chose. A poem of human and animal lives.

Such a sad but wonderful poem, Marie. Full of the sentiment that I am sure a dog would feel but cannot express. Gave them a limp in my throat.
