Virgo's June

By Beach. By Sun. By Breeze. By Moon.

When ancient fires foretold my fate’s romance:

By beach—a weekend’s chance—in Virgo’s June,

without a him in hand with whom to dance,

I whirled on whim to Black's, Diego's dune.

* * *

By sun, he shone. By wind, our oceans winked

like gems along the sand, like treasures found.

Our golden chests full bared, our fortunes linked

to salty waves and sweets and pleasures bound.

* * *

By moon, we stirred inside Martini’s jazz,

and pared our pain with tantalizing skies,

with star-kissed smiles as starry minutes passed,

with astral signs we marked with dazzling eyes.

* * *

In time, our June-green dreams fell unfulfilled,

but thus we dreamt as asterism willed.
