Valuing Mother Earth

Free write challenge from Off The Chest eco-poetry workshop. I was so inspired I had to finish writing after the workshop had ended. Because when the creative juices are flowing, you gotta keep going!

Why do we think we are above the abundant balance of nature?

Even if mankind can make paper,

It's taken from the source.

Yet no one chooses to thank her.

Mother Nature is stripping back the industrial layers.

As emotional as we are;

Why would we think she'd stay so calm?

Because we're clouded by convenience as it's smokiness supplies the demand,

Technological advances excites the brain,

But none of that would've been able to take place,

If the chivalrous trees and plants didn't supply oxygen to the human race.

Mass consumption lines the pockets of the rich,

Whilst the top cats rob the purest essence from the richest!

Marketed to make us think they know what's best.

But in the end it's mothers earthliness who will put us to the test.

Through the power of chaotic unrest.

Worst case scenario is our regular commutes through seas of waste;

Routine natural disasters,

The planets mouldiness caused by the greed of this rat race.

When I say caused understand it's a spectrum.

On one end is the individuals,

The other is dedicated to capitalism.

How did we end up here?

From dust to peaty soil,

Soil to trees,

Land,

Salty seas and earth.

As a race we didn't value its worth.

So why do we expect her to let us settle?
