Used Up

The story of a sweet.

I'm falling off, slipping into the bleak ether

Because I cannot manage a simple hello

And all of this, all these words and thoughts

Mean nothing to the cosmos when it demands

Tit for tat, back scratches, and blood draws.

.

I'm melting into a puddle of negatives

And carefully curated irrelevancy

Because this world is a hungry place but

It's learned only how to suck on the sweets

And spit them out to avoid gaining the weight.

.

It doesn't want to gain me in its memory.

It tongues my dreams, licks my soul,

Drains the best parts of my ideas

And then spits me into the trash at a truck stop

Forgetting the miles we've travelled.

P.S. So sorry I've been quiet and a little absent here. I've been knee-deep in other studies that have completely consumed my time. It's done now and after a day or so of rest, I'll be back to reading all your lovely stories :)

The last stanza was very vivid and hard-hitting! "It doesn't want to gain me in its memory" was such a striking line. Beautifully tragic piece, Silver!

"Because this world is a hungry place but It's learned only how to suck on the sweets And spit them out to avoid gaining the weight." Damn, that's so true!

That's what the world does, doesn't it? Well written and well observed.

I love this Silver. It feels so personal. The symbolism makes me think and the metaphor makes it a reality. Excellent work!

    Loved this poem!

  • Brilliant use of metaphors: I love how you gnaw into the depths of your mind and mash up the surreal with reality

A characteristically bleak, bitter, beautiful poem.
