Systemic Racism

By Marie MelendezPublished 6 years ago 2 min read

From the moment we step out of the womb

We have known we weren’t welcomed

Our skin color to our hair

Our whole existence

Is despised

What better way to make use of us

Than to take what is ours

Our land

Our culture

Our beliefs

When we rise to success

We are then left with becoming the fallen

Back to square one

Brainwashed to think you are superior

You enslave us to make sure we don’t run

You create a system in which we can never rise up from

When we want equality

You say we ask for too much

You silence us

To make sure our opinions don’t matter

Even though our insides are the same

The gap between us is all too clear

As for America

The land of the free

The Free whites

And the land of the enslaved minorities

Why did you take Mexican land

and then call it your own

Why did you enslave and degrade Blacks

and treat them as disposable objects

Why did you remove the indigenous from their sacred soil

And make them reform to your standards of living

Why did you block borders for the Chinese and blame a pandemic on Asians

And then bash on their broken English and title them “model minority”

Then you use Black culture

And you think you are cool

You eat the fruit and veggies piled on your plate

Picked by the hands of Latinx

You sleep on the lands

Once own by the indigenous

You use everything in your house

That was made in china

Black face

To

Brown face

To

Red Face

To

Yellow face

You want to become us for one day out of the year

And then for the rest

You would rather die than be us

Yet you still think of us as savages

When we are needed

we rush to your beck and call

And you throw us to the side when you are finished

I don’t understand the complexity of this concept

Do you think of us as humans

Or objects of your desire

Which one is it?

Its 2020

An overdue movement has now risen

Risen from the anguish of 400 years of silence

Police brutality

To

Mass Incarceration

To

Wrongful Convictions

To

Private Prison Enslavement

On the surface you act like Blacks have equal rights

But

Underground is where your true side awakens

Blacks are just asking to not be killed

Its that asking for too much

We are done playing the game good cop bad cop

The whole system is corrupt

From the moment it was created

why waste another breathe trying to play this game

A game that has been rigged so we can never win
