My family

the point

zero one

percent

the folks you

stop saying

get well

to because

you know it

only aches

Auntie M

on her

fourth iteration

a benign tumor

benign

that’s not really

true of the brain

poor SIL

Barely part

of the family five years

the youngest of us

first to take

yet

I feel life squeeze

and violently apply

friction’s heat

first pulling away

the blanket

so I can

finally breathe

holding

me up

letting me see

I must let go

of everything

known

jumping

into safety

a leap

of faith

shedding away

long-held pain

allowing myself

to feel

my

feelings

not read

the symptoms

off a sheet

my diagnosis

is blind faith

a child's love

boundless

until the medicine

taints it
