Unto the Breach

Social Commentary, introspective, stream of consciousness poem.

By Paul StewartPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

frustration seeps in,

/sexydirtysuperstardom/

when the mind wanders to parallel dreams, unfulfilled lives

I - I could be the one you hum with

/drugsdrawyouinwards/

as you work, or rush to share on your feeds

fame is insanity, as close to infamy

/rockbottomneverfar/

as it is distracting and all in between

but recognition, held in regard,

/rolloutthebloodcarpet/

vaunted about and generally seen as good

in your chosen field, must feel

/celebritydisintigraty/

like a warm blanket on a cold blue day

to some greater or lesser extent,

/cultleadertruthreaper/

we act, masked, even when we try not to

we push forward the faux reality,

/quowreckersoulseller/

perceived visage of our internality

stand statuesque singled out as yet

dripping our life force for the

\achievementdevolution\

another cog in the never dying machine

"Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more"*

Thanks for reading!

Author's Notes: Yeah...some of my usual stomping ground with this one. Price of fame. But thought I'd juxtapose it all with the line from one of the famous speeches from Henry V by Shakespeare.

This is outstanding! I was very impressed with all of it but especially “/drugsdrawyouinwards/ as you work, or rush to share on your feeds fame is insanity, as close to infamy”. And always your clever use of formatting made this an engaging puzzle to add another layer of depth

Loved this Paul!! Really makes one think about who they're writing for... themselves? For the gratification of others.... 🤔 Ver thought provoking indeed!

Such a profound message lies within your scheme of poetic words. They say you write best of things about which you know firsthand. It must be true.

Paul, your insightful poetry never fails to leave me in deep contemplation, and this beauty is no exception. As always, well done, my friend! I especially love this: "fame is insanity, as close to infamy . . . /rockbottomneverfar/"
