Untitled

By Justin Adams

In that moment

Between living and dying

Where most will never be

Somewhere in the void

Light and shadow

That most are fearful to see

Locked and chained

No escape

From the prison of my mind

No sheltered port

Or blocking stone

From the storm inside.

This swirling vortex

Of pain and passion,

Searing my soul to ash

I must crawl

My way back

From the void,

Slowly, then gaining

Upward out of sorrow

Bloodied and bruised

I can see the light.

Death, oh death

Your power fades

Before your hollow eyes

As I rise,

Chains of despair

Falling at my feet

I look behind,

To the chasm

From the bowels

Of whence I clawed

Seeing the past

Falling away

Leaving the future

Before me.
