Until I Cannot Dream

"I know many think

that dreamers are foolish.

but many of us are

awake.

we just see the world

through colors unseen.

with visions, sketches,

daydreams, whispers.

stories.

songs.

prayers.

if I feel lost,

or hopeful.

no matter the season...

I dream.

and dream.

and dream,

until the vision breathes.

until the sky feels near.

until my soul aches.

until I’ve emptied my longing...

and then I feel

lifted.

I feel whole.

I feel

alive.

my constant companion

was wonder.

is wonder.

and will remain

wonder.

until my final dusk.

until my eyes grow heavy

and see no more.

until my bones give out.

until they tire with years.

until my voice falls silent.

and it can’t tell another story.

until I cross the horizon

I will follow

wonder.

in every form I can.

and I will until it keeps me breathing.
