Unreachable

When Effort Meets Resistance

Listen up—

this is not a drill,

but an everyday struggle

for consistent peace.

Withstanding unfair, harmful behavior

after countless acts of support and patience

can break anyone’s will.

Apologetic about the damage caused,

yet never unwilling

to move in the direction of progress.

Forgiven is the imperfect child

searching for salvation,

but holding onto low expectations

that make growth difficult.

Tears don’t fall

when love is held together

by those who refuse to quit

on a project so unfinished.

Never justified in reason,

but never too stubborn

to take the hit—

even if the blow was undeserved.

Afraid to apply

standards of greatness,

worried they’d be too heavy

for fragile shoulders.

Certain they’ve been mistreated,

without realizing

their own way of handling conflict—

and unmoved by the thought

of being difficult themselves.

Rooted stubbornly in the pride of creation,

bristling at hearing what’s lacking

from those they’ve guided

with tireless effort.

Common ground stays unreachable

when perception

outshouts reason

and silences truth.
