Unless

It's not so black and white

By Crystal MaePublished 4 years ago 1 min read

I never seem to live in the present

Distracted, eyes glazed as I tick off whatever checklist in my mind

That’s why I’m surprised you could break through

So now I’m here; the hamster wheel undermined

You say my name

I hide how mesmerizing I find the warmth of your smile

I need to learn more

But putting myself out there is not my style

Wait, what was I worrying about before I saw you?

The checklist fights against the sudden withdrawal

Face flushed as I long to sit closer

Anxiety dissolves; my heart overrides it all

Details elude me, but I could name every color in your hair

Why is your voice what shattered my internal prison?

The smell of your shampoo intoxicating

An accidental touch threatens to remove my inhibition

I must be confused

Exhausted from searching for this feeling with a man with no success

And here I find it with a woman

Unless…?
