He said he could save me

But I’d learnt not to trust

The words of the men

For their language was lust.

I told him to go

“Just leave me alone.

I cannot believe you

Until I’ve been shown

That you aren’t like the ones

Who have come before

And you’ll treat me more gently

And not just a whore.”

.

“I will never hurt you,

It isn’t in my nature.”

He put his hand out carefully

To see if I’d accept his wager.

.

A gentle hand upon my head

Lets madness seep beneath my skin.

I told him he could come a little

Closer, but not all the way in.

I feel him influence my soul

And wish I’d pushed him away.

He drags me out to the wilderness

And I dance: unhinged and fae.

.

So now I stay amongst the trees

And twirl and prance until I’m numb.

I could not leave if I wanted to.

All that waits back home is scum.
