If you only see artistry
In things meant to be beautiful
You’re not seeing at full potential…
Because there is beauty
In the way rushing water
Submits to gravity,
And how it carves and scars
Serpentine wounds
Into Earths giving flesh.
There is beauty etched
In old wooden floors
And how every scratch bleeds
The memories of generations before.
There is beauty in an aging face
And the wisdom scribed
Between the wrinkles and grays.
There is beauty in decay
And how weather fades away
An unsoiled facade
Into distinguishable and flawed.
There is beauty in the darkness
And not for promise of the light…
But because hidden in the shadows
Is a chance to feel
What you’ve been taught to hide.
There is beauty in the truth,
Even when it’s coupled with hurt,
Because there is nothing worse
Than believing misleading words.
There is beauty in overgrowth
And the way nature reaches forth
Reclaiming its space…
Because it doesn’t seek permission
To live its free
And unfettered way.
