Under the Waterfall
We made love beneath the rushing fall,
skin slick with the kiss of untamed water,
your hands mapping my body like uncharted land,
your lips whispering promises
that would never hold weight in daylight.
I knew, oh, I knew,
even as my nails dug crescents into your back,
even as my breath tangled with yours,
that you were never truly mine.
Under the Waterfall
We made love beneath the roaring veil,
water lashing over our tangled limbs,
your breath, my name,
lost in the storm of it all.
I held you like you belonged to me,
but the river knew better.
It carried our whispers downstream,
washing away what was never mine to keep.
When I woke, the water still raged,
Alas you were already a memory.
This is what happens
when you dream while asleep.
