Under the Same Sun

A Sonnet

What joy it is to be alive,

and under the same sun as thee.

Sweet rays bless us as we thrive,

enabling us to live in harmony.

What contentment should be mine!

We live, though apart, cherishing one another.

Wisdom and sensibility do not consistently align;

My joy unchecked longing will smother.

Folly to dwell on what cannot be obtained,

to bury thine soul in starry-eyed daydreams.

Open! Cast down eyes, and be not pained;

‘Tis bliss to share the same sunbeams.

When yearnings for what is not begin to grow,

laughing I shall watch the sun, and let them go.
