Under Irish Skies

My Favourite Place To Be

Towel upon the sand

Sunshine from above

Shading my blue eyes with hands

Salty from the surf

***

Sand between my toes

Shorts and Tee-shirt dressed

Irish skin freckled deeply

Summer’s breath undone

***

Playing ball and making castles

Digging moats for salt water to fill

Running across the rippling dunes

And on towards the sea

***

Raining in the morning

Windy by midday

Sunbathing in the evening sun

All seasons in one day

***

Laughing with joy unleased

Smiles reflected in sparkling eyes

A time before worries, a time of joy

Young under Irish skies.

***

Summer fun under iron skies

Sunshine and rain

Verdant hills on the horizon

Under Irish skies

***

Growing up so long ago

So innocent with friends so close

In rain or shine, we laughed and played

Under Irish skies

***

I always look back in wonder

With warmth in my heart

At my happy childhood

Under Irish skies.
