Under Fire

Life of a Californian during Fire Season

It seems like every year now I have woken

Up to the smells of ashes and smoke

From the fires that burn in the east and the west

It’s as if your level of keeping calm is some sort of survival test

When in reality it’s the anxieties

That keep you in on the alert and ensure the safeties

Of those that you love and care for

Because it’s until the worst case scenarios happen to you

And the ones you admired most are gone forevermore

It’s never an easy feeling to be under fire

If I were to tell you I feel calm, “This is no big deal”

That would make me a pathological liar

How unfortunate this nightmare has become our reality

The fact that Climate Change is real & part of our society

Then we have these multi-million dollar celebrities

Who seem to be unbothered, privileged enough to live in normality

While those who are poor have to live in utter agony

Forced to inhale the ashes in the air that comes from the dead trees

This, my friends is what it’s like to live under fire

The thoughts of our future have become dire

Just so you know, Climate Change is not a hoax nor it is satire
