Dear Lover, the one whom they said I could never have.
Remember the passion that we made, that night under summer shade? Our fate we had tried to flee. And as we lay with bodies bare, our desire burned without a care, of what the world would say. But behind our backs was a murmuring sound, a gossip that tore throughout the town. They would never let us be. So what is it now, what reason have they found, to keep us apart?
Perhaps we did not call in name, the Lord thy God by the same. Yet we worshiped at each other’s altars. For how could a Creator see, a love shared so deep between, and call a union such as ours a sin? We would walk hand in hand, in this world or the Promised Land. We were equals in each other’s eyes.
Perhaps our castes held us down, or let us rise above the ground. Yet somehow we freed ourselves from that. For how could position or estate, be they less or be they great, determine worth of human life? Without money and without claim, we promised to love and cherish the same. Each other’s status mattered not to us.
Perhaps it was your skin and hair, which made them so aware, that we be from different lands. Oh how sweetly you spoke your words, in foreign tongues they had not heard, but were so beautiful to me. And in the way that we danced, you held me there in a trance, as I gave my heart to you.
But the world has given reason, and called our love treason, but for their condemnation we cared not. A choice given we must make, abandon you or our lives they take. We know which one we choose. In the life that comes hereafter, we will seek each other out no matter, just to be together once again. Now my darling as I die, your face be the last before my eyes. Know that our love will be born anew.
Sincerely, the one who will surely see you soon.
