Uncommonly Common

A poem

By Lane BurnsPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

Haven’t you ever wondered,

How the rarest events to happen,

Seem to happen every day?

Just yesterday. So and so got hit by lightening!

Two days ago Mille saw a shooting star.

Just this afternoon, Liz took a picture of some rare waterfall.

Look it up! The media will say it’s rare.

The internet will give you lists on lists of rare things.

Yet people yell and proclaim they’ve seen them every day.

And if so many people have seen all these things, then what really makes something rare?

Is rare just a word for animals going instinct?

Is rare just a word for climates being destroyed by climate change?

Is it just a word for luxury?

A word made up by people to get other people to buy into it?

I wonder if there truly is anything rare and uncommon?

Because from my point of view….

It’s all uncommonly too common.
