Tyrone

I'm Getting Tired of Your Shhh

By Maya WrightPublished 4 years ago 2 min read

In 2016 a sonogram couldn’t find a heartbeat and mine stopped

Dr said I’d been carrying around a dead thing for over a month

Depression and my daughter were conceived at the same time

But only one of them survived long enough to hear me call it by name

I never told my siblings

It’s bad luck to announce a child’s life too early

So on my own a mourned the mother no one knew I became

Months later

My brother - Tyrone - behind my back says

He wouldn’t have put it past me to have had an abortion before

As if that's the sort of thing a woman needs a man to get behind

Dear brother

You've ignorantly allowed your tongue to miscarry my experience

Without understanding the pain of having to suck up my feelings

When surrounded by your children

While mine was sucked out of me

And when I confront you

You have nothing to say

Not and explanation

Not a backwalk

Not an apology

Tyrone- do you know how hard it is to just push past your statement

When I am still pushing past a loss

But it's not just this one man

This one time

It’s more than Tyrone's shit I’m tired of

It's Deandre saying women get men out of character

Without acknowledging they were playing a character in the first place

But the good guy act only got you so far

You swear you needed to have the beauty of the ball

But when she rebels

She ends up with bruises from the beast

But that’s not it

It’s Antwon saying his best friend was me too’d by some bitch

Instead of saying that same friend is in fact a rapist

Took her crying for consent

And yells for yes

So yes this message is for more than one idiotic man

Its for all the men who give us women a bad feeling

In our guts without ever having reached them

It’s for the overturning of roe vs. wade

And every man that gets a say about pussy they aint getting

Be so balls deep in a conversation about contraceptives

They don’t realize we haven’t consented to their opinion

And at the climax of this debate

Men can’t come to terms with the fact that 82% of us women can’t cum for them

So I have a suggestion

The next time a woman’s womb is called into question

Men don’t answer

Cause you don’t have the answers

Abort the words waiting to be birthed of your breath

I promise

Our cervix isn’t begging for your little input
