Two Missing Years

A Roman Blunder

By Patrick M. OhanaPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Both images were designed using Canva.

“Why two?”

A couple is better than one.

Can you imagine Earth without the Moon?

I can but it was already expressed

in several of my other poems.

“And both images are almost the same.”

I covered that before too.

Did you notice the Roman numerals;

the ones in ugly red?

“Yes.”

There is no 0.

Romans and others used the word, null

in Roman/Latin, of course.

Nulla

I am sure that Pythagoras

and all the other wise Greeks

would have laughed something off.

But they were no longer around

when the Roman blunder

dared to surpass the Trojan Horse

except that this bungle

is still with us today.

What year is it?

“2024.”

Not at all, Anthi!

Guess again!

“I can only think of the M numeral.”

I knew that you would.

“My M; I mean M, is the highest number.”

Indeed, dear, Anthi!

M was highly regarded even in Rome.

(Anthi smiled and then laughed with mixed tears.)

The Roman boo-boo, however,

occurred when they passed

from BC to AD:

1 BC to 1 AD.*

With no 0 in between

two years remain missing.

Even Goddess Athena laughed;

Anthi and Delphine too.

“Where is my M, our M?”

(He may return, I wanted to say.)

M is within

and he will come out.

“When the time is right.”

Yes, M’s Anthi!
